Programs To Optimize Your Utility Budget

Need help maximizing the energy efficiency of your facility’s equipment? SJE engineers offer energy assessments designed to reduce energy consumption and the cost of implementing these measures.

As a certified NJ Energy Services Company (ESCO), we work closely with New Jersey’s Office Of Clean Energy to optimize your energy usage. Our energy assessment programs include:


Direct Install

The Direct Install program is a turnkey solution offered by the New Jersey Clean Energy Program (NJCEP), allowing small- to medium-sized businesses the ability to afford high-efficiency upgrades. These upgrades may include HVAC, lighting and other outdated equipment. NJCEP may pay up to 70% of installed costs for high-efficiency equipment.

Eligible equipment may include:

  • Lighting
  • Heating, cooling and ventilation (HVAC)
  • Refrigeration
  • Motors
  • Natural gas conversions
  • Variable frequency drives

Pay For Performance

Existing companies (hospitals, public colleges and universities, 501(c) (3) non-profits, multi-family housing and local government entities) with over 100kW in any of the 12 previous months may be eligible to participate in the Pay For Performance program.

Expected energy reduction after partnering with the NJCEP-approved Pay For Performance partner is approximately 15 percent.


CHP (Combined Heat And Power)

The CHP energy assessment program is designed to enhance energy efficiency through on-site power generation by providing financial incentives for CHP installations.

There are eligibility requirements, including either taking part in the Pay For Performance program, be an Energy Star building or be eligible for Energy Star certification through benchmarking.

CHP is available for, but not limited to, the following types of buildings:

  • Banks/financial institutions
  • Courthouses
  • Hospitals
  • Hotels
  • Houses of worship
  • Schools
  • Offices
  • Residence halls/dormitories
  • Retail stores
  • Supermarkets
  • Warehouses
  • Treatment plants

ESIP (Energy Savings Improvement Program)

This energy assessment program helps local government, New Jersey state colleges and universities, and 501(c) (3) non-profit organizations make energy-related improvements and pay for the costs using the value of projected energy savings.

Eligible Energy Conservation Measures include:

  • HVAC upgrades
  • Lighting upgrades
  • Demand response equipment
  • Building envelope
  • Water savings measures
  • Renewable energy such as solar, wind or geothermal
