FOLSOM, N.J. -- AirLogics, LLC announced the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued a patent (U.S. Patent No. 6,114,964) for its real-time air monitoring technology. The system, jointly developed by Folsom, N.J.-based South Jersey Industries and GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. of Newton, Mass., records and stores air quality measurements during environmental site cleanup activities.
Currently, the air monitoring system is used by utilities for early detection and warning for potentially hazardous airborne particulates produced by activities during cleanups of manufactured gas plants also known as MGPs. The patent better positions the company to more aggressively market the product to an estimated 2,500 MGP sites nationwide. Future applications for the product include its use at hazardous waste sites, landfills, chemical manufacturing facilities, mines, or radioactive sites.
"AirLogics is gaining recognition as the premiere risk management technique for MGP remediation by site owners, contractors, regulators, and the public," said GZA Senior Vice President James A. Cleveland. "We are very excited about the growth potential for this technology. Many of our clients are using this technology on a second or third site. Two of our clients have opted to purchase systems to support long-term remediation programs."
Although now used by utilities, the system can be customized for other applications and to detect specific compounds.
Adam M. Fasano, GZA Senior Technical Specialist and the system's inventor said, "The awarding of a patent to this technology validates the uniqueness of this system and should be a significant advantage to AirLogics, LLC in the marketplace. The system's simplicity of design, real-time data capability, and modular design are keys to its innovation and sets it apart from other perimeter air monitoring systems currently available."
The technology's highly flexible format allows for continual monitoring of air quality for volatile and particulate substances. Captured data can be relayed to centralized operations equipped with alarm systems triggered by increased detection levels.
"Securing the patent is a significant milestone for this innovative air quality technology," said South Jersey Industries Vice President Edward J. Graham. "Protecting this intellectual property is key to the marketing and development of this product, which has already begun to establish itself as the future standard for field monitoring."
AirLogics, LLC is a partnership between South Jersey Industries (NYSE: SJI) and GZA GeoEnvironmental (NASDAQ: GZEA). Air Logics also has a marketing alliance with the Institute of Gas Technology a leading energy and environmental research and development group.
